Klein Collins Talks Spring Game

May 25, 2012
VYPE MAGAZINE - North Houston

This week, many programs put the finishing touches on spring training with the annual spring game. At Klein Collins, coach Drew Svoboda talks about the Tigers spring game

Thoughts about the spring game, which ended with a 21-21 score…

“We didn’t lose and you have to like that. But the kids competed and you have to like that. You see them play a little different when you play under the lights and get the energy up. It’s hard to simulate that in practice. It’s good to see the kids who didn’t play on Saturday night step up and show how far they have come.”

On the talent level of Greater Houston area teams…

“We have to continue to improve. Everybody around us is so talented. If we take any time off, we’ll get passed up and these kids are fully aware of that. It’s like shark-infested waters around here and you get knocked out of your boat. You have to sink or swim to get away from it. We have to keep training to get better.”

Any concerns you needed to address this spring…

“Our offensive line. We lost three really good football players there and we had three young guys step up. And even at the receiver position, we had guys to replace. Our quarterback spot is still a work in progress. We have multiple guys who took snaps this spring and there are new guys everywhere.”

New challenges for next season…

“We go into next season with some new challenges. We start off scrimmaging Katy, and that should give us a good feel for where we are. We play Cy Woods at the new Dynamo Stadium right out of the gate. Those guys are phenomenal and have a great football team. Then we play Eisenhower before we go into district, starting with Westfield first game. That will bring us new plenty of new challenges.”
