Home » Football NewsGood Attitudes at WestfieldMay 18, 2012 VYPE MAGAZINE - North HoustonFinishing 10-4 and going four rounds deep is a pretty good finish to the season. But, like most coaches, progression must be made. And that is what is going on at Westfield under the leadership of Corby Meekins.
Spring ball has started and right now excitement is building for the Mustang team.
“We’re a little over half way through and we are pleased about where we are right now. The attitude is unbelievable and we have some great kids, and a fun group who works hard,” Meekins. As long as the attitude stays good and the effort is there, you are going to get better.”
And for the most part, Meekins explained how this attitude will be beneficial. But at the same time, there are moments when it gets rough and real.
For the final minutes of practice, Westfield gets a bit more physical.
“These past couple of days has been wars. The defense beat us the first week, which they should,” Meekins said. “We are still replacing some players on offense, but you grow up in a hurry here or you get your feelings hurt. When you get that kind of stuff going, with the point system, it gets the juices flowing.
Meekins continued.
“Spring ball can be a bear because we spend a lot of time going over fundamentals, so when you get the chance to compete…everyday is a fourth quarter here,” Meekins said. “That’s what we do in the last 45 minutes after grinding for over an hour.”
One thing is for certain, the competition in district will stay tough and highly competitive.
“We got a chance. Just like everybody else in the district,” Meekins said.
