Home » Football NewsWestfield OL Commits to Big 10 SchoolJanuary 30, 2012 By Matt Malatesta of VYPE MAGAZINE - North HoustonWestfield's Dimitric Camiel was a virtual unknown entering the recruiting a year ago. The 6-foot-6 offensive lineman had just played junior varsity football but coach Corby Meekins had a feeling his project was going to come to fruition.
Camiel had a successful senior season and the offers began to flow into the north Houston school. Indiana was first, then Arizona State and Mississippi State came calling. He took a few visits and he made his commitment Monday night.
"I just got off of the phone with the coaches and I'm going to Indiana," he said proudly. "I really like coaches and their work ethic. They've had some hard times and I feel like they are going to get the program headed in the right direction. I want to be a part of that.
"On my visit, I got to meet a lot of the guys," he said. "They were honest with me and told me that they have had some hard times. But to get to the good times, you have to go through some hard times. I can appreciate that. If you would have told me that I would be playing Division I football three years ago, I would have thought you were crazy. At that point in my life, there was no way, but with some hard work and through the grace of God anything in possible."
Indiana has been camping out at Westfield for months and have been with him all the way through the process.
"It' s a great feeling to be wanted and I really feel like they want me in their program," he said.
