IHSAA Tip of the Week

November 5, 2012
By Tony Uggen of Northfield High School

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (11-5-12)

"Promoting education-based athletics in Indiana."

What is your most difficult class this grading period? If you struggle in this class, do you ask for some guidance and help from your teacher?

I'm sure you do! It should be no different when it comes to asking for help in your sport when you are struggling.

Be sure to communicate your question

s and concerns with your coach if you don't understand a new drill or new play during practice.

Engaging questions and communication with your teachers and coaches lets them know that you are interested in doing your best, and that you have that desire to improve and get better!

NOTE FROM MR UGGEN: This is VERY true. One of the most important things I tell the coaches is that kids have to know WHY they are being asked to use a specific technique. Athletes should also remember though that there are many ways to do the same thing and that you should use the technique taught by your in-season coach.
