IHSAA Tip of the Week

October 29, 2012
By Tony Uggen of Northfield High School

IHSAA Student-Athlete Tip of the Week (10-29-12)

"Promoting education-based athletics in Indiana."

With the 2012 World Series between the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers coming to an end last night, I can't help but think about my favorite quote from one of baseball's all-time greats, Mickey Mantle.

"After I hit a home run, I had a habit of running the bases with my head down.  I figured the pitcher already felt bad enough without me showing him up rounding the bases."

When you or your team hits that home run, whether it be a game winning tackle, a game ending shot, or crossing the finish line first, be respectful to your opponent and their feelings.  In today's world it seems that celebration is accepted, but my advice is to keep it short and simple!
