The NIC had a disappointing regional meet at Kokomo on Thursday as only three NIC athletes won regional events. SB Riley's Elias Micozzi won the discus event and Elkhart Central's Daimon Leader won the 100m event. The top three place finishers head to the IHSAA State Finals next Friday at IU - Bloomington. The pole vault event was be contested ton Friday after the regional meet due to the poor weather conditions in Kokomo. The team title will not be final until the pole vault is scored. Warsaw ended up winning the Regional with 58 points after the pole vault was completed on Friday. After the pole vault was completed on Friday, the final team scores are as follows for the NIC: Mishawaka (4th) was the top NIC school in points with 40, Penn scored 38.5 for 6th, SB Riley had 30 for 8th, Elkhart Central 20 for 11th, St.Joseph's had 16, SB Clay 15, SB Adams 8 and Marian scored 3 points. Eight NIC schools scored points at the regional. Other State Meet qualifiers include SB Adams' Chris Vann in the 100, Joey Zielinski of St. Joseph's in the 1600m, Thomas Capers of SB Riley in the 400m, SB Clay's Steven Dennig in the 800m, Mishawaka's Miguel Lozano and AJ Wright in the 3200m, SB Riley's 1600m relay team, Penn's DeSean Prentice in the high jump and Thomas Davis of St. Joseph's in the shot put. In the weather delayed pole vault held on Friday, Penn's Kyle Johnston won the event with a vault of 15'0'' with Mishawaka's Umron Alkotob getting 3rd with a 14'3" vault.
