NIC Boys' Track Meet at Elkhart Central

Tuesday, May 10 - The State Farm NIC Girls' & Boys' Track & Field Meet at Elkhart Central

Last year St. Joseph's won their first NIC boys' title in school history when they scored 109.5 points, beating 2nd place SB Riley by 30 points. 16 points separated 2nd and 7th place as SB Riley secured 2nd with 79 points, Penn 3rd with 75.5, Elkhart Central 4th with 75, SB Washington was 5th with 73.5 , SB Adams was 6th with 66.5 while Mishawaka was 7th with 63 points. SB Clay got 50 points for their 8th place finish while Marian was 9th with 26 points.

Last year's meet featured SB Clay MVP Jarrod Buchanon who won won both hurdle events. In this year's meet, again sponsored by local State Farm Inurance agents from St. Joseph and Elkhart counties, looks to be a battle to see who can the win the title. Penn won three of their four preliminary triangulars, but SB Riley won their four trianangulars, Mishawaka won two while Elkhart Central finished 2nd in their four pre-lim meets. 

SB Riley's Elias Micozzi, who  won the NIC Shot Put and Discus titles last year, returns to defend his field event titles. He finished 2nd at the IHSAA State Finals in the discus event. The Boys' Sectional returns to Penn after a one year absence as the Penn facility under went reconstruction last year. St. Joseph's looks to defend their NIC and Sectional championships, their school's first such titles, under Coach Mike McCarthy. The Boys' Sectional at Penn will be on Thursday, May 19 with 8 of the 9 NIC schools battling it out in a field of 11 schools. Elkahrt Central will run at the Goshen Sectional., where they finished 7th out of a field of 11 schools from Elkhart County.
