NIC Football Schedule/Results - Friday, August 23
Elkhart Central at Elkhart Memorial
Central takes on Memorial for the battle of the Mangy Lion in Elkhart. Central finished 6-5 last year. Central wins the battle of Elkhart for the second straight year. Central's Vinny Schnell scored the game's only TD on a 1 yard run, as the Blazers got two FGs from Cosmo Disori to lead the Blazers in the shutout of their city rival Memorial.

Concord at SB Washington at Jackson Field
SB Washington, 3-9 last year, takes on the Minutemen of Concord. Washington got to the final game of the Sectional last year vs. Mishawaka. Concord overpowers Washington in the opener at Jackson Field. Concord completely dominated Washington with 339 yards of total offense, while Washington had negative rushing yardage, but added 182 yards thru the air on 15 of 32 passing.

Marian at DeKalb
Marian, who finished 10-4 last year winning sectional & regional titles, travels to DeKalb. Marian posts an opening game win on the road, over DeKalb. Marian's Devin Cannady rushed for 111 yards and tallied two rushing scores, while throwing 2 TD passes.

Penn at Valparaiso
Penn won the NIC last year, but got beat by FW Carroll in the sectional semi-finals, travels to Valparaiso for the opener. Both teams could face one another again later this fall as they are both in Sectional 2/Class 6A. Penn broke the game open in the second half. The Kingsmen got two TDs from Zach Oakley and Khalil Fleming along with an 88 yard kick-off return by Tim Deal.

SB Clay at Merrillville
Clay travels to Sectional 1/Class 6A power Merrillville. Clay finished 5-5 last year, losing in a first round sectional game to Hobart in Class 4A. Clay drops their opener at Duneland power Merrillville. The host Pirates run game completely dominated the visiting Colonials.

Northridge at SB Adams at School Field
SB Adams, 7-5 last year and got to the sectional championship game before falling to FW Carroll in Class 5A, plays host to Northridge. In an upset, Northridge out of the NLC edges SB Adams out of the NIC. The lack of an effective running attack hurt the Eagles, whille Shaq Vann scored their only TD on a 62 yard pass from Colin Glick.

SB Rley at Whiteland
SB Riley, 1-9 last year, travels to the south of Indianapolis to take on Whiteland. Riley lead early in this one, but faded in the second half in a high scoring affair. Riley's Daigien Morgan ran for two scores and threw 2 TD passes.

Portage at Mishawaka
Mishawaka, Class 4A state runner-up last year with 11-4 mark, will play host to Portage, a Class 6A Sectional 2 member. Mishawaka moves up to Class 5A this year. Portage out of the Duneland Conference travels to Mishawaka and gets an opening game victory. Mishawaka scored first, but four fumbles allowed Portage to outlast Mishawaka at Steele Stadium.

Chesterton at St. Joseph
St. Joseph, 7-5 finish a year ago takes on Class 6A/Sectional 2 power Chesterton, while St. Joseph moves up the Class 4A / Sectional 18. St Joseph wins their opener at Father Bly Field over visiting Chesterton out of the Duneland. The host Indians got a late score on Matt Monserez TD to edge the visiting Trojans. Monserez threw for two scores earlier in the game.
