NIC Boys' Basketball history notes:

Penn and SB Adams are NIC Co-Champions for 2012-13

1st NIC title for Al Rhodes at Penn, Milt Cooper's 4th title, includes three at Washington

Adams - 10 NIC championships since '40-41, their first since '89

Penn - 12 NIC championships since '74-75 when it joined the NIC

NIC championships by coach: Doug Adams of Michigan City Elston has 11.

Dave Hadaway of SB Adams has 8, Dean Foster has 8 (Penn 7, Elkhart Central 1)

Sectional history notes:

SB Adams looks to defend its Sectional title earned last year. It has been 12 years since there has been a successful defense of a sectional title in the South Bend/Mishawaka Class 4A Sectional. Penn won three in a row (98-99, 99-00, 00-01) when they played in the sectional with South Bend schools. They won back-to-back titles in 05-06 and 06-07 when they played in the Elkhart sectional.

SB Adams wins their 12th sectional title, their second in a row under Milt Cooper.

Riley (14) last one in '11 under Mark Johnson

Washington (5) last one in '10 under Chad Johnston

Mishawaka (9), last one in '86 under former coach Bill Davidson

Penn (14) last one in '07 (won at Elkhart), last one with SB schools in '01 under Dean Foster

Class 4A - at Elkhart North Side Gym - Sectional # 4

Elkhart Central, Elkhart Memorial, Concord, Goshen, Northridge, Warsaw

Elkhart Memorial is the defending sectional champion. Elkhart Central is the Sectional host.

Warsaw leads the Elkhart sectional field with 37 sectional titles in school history, with their last title coming in 2010. Concord has won 12 titles, with their last one coming in 2011. Central and Memorial each have won 8 sectional crowns, with Central's last one coming in 2003. Elkhart High School won 28 sectionals before Memorial opened up in 1972 as a new school, with the old school becoming known as Elkhart Central.

Goshen has won 9 sectionals, with their last one coming in 1992. Northridge has won 7 sectionals with their last one coming in 2004, coming in a 3A Sectional.

Tuesday, Feb 26

6:00 pm - Game - 1 - Elkhart Central vs Warsaw

Final Score: Warsaw 45-44 2 OT over Elkhart Central

7:30 pm - Game - 2 - Elkhart Memorial vs Goshen

Final Score:  Goshen 44-42 over Elkhart Memorial

Friday, Mar 1

6:00 pm - Game - 3 - Concord vs Game # 1 winner - Warsaw

Final Score: Warsaw 41-39  3 ot  over Concord

7:30 pm - Game - 4 - Northridge vs Game # 2 winner - Goshen

Final Score: Northridge 62-46 over Goshen

Warsaw vs Northridge

Final Score: Warsaw 64-57 over Northridge


Class 4A Regional Information - Saturday, March 9

The Elkhart Sectional winner will play the Mishawaka Sectional winner in the first game of the Michigan City Regional at 11:00 am ET/ 10:00 CT.

GAME - 1  Warsaw (13-10) vs SB Adams (21-2)

The winner at the Michigan City Sectional will play the Gary West Side Sectional winner in the second game.

GAME - 2  Munster (25-0) vs Merrillville (20-3)

Munster defeated Lake Central, 43-41 to win the sectional at Gary West Side, while Merrillville edged Valparaiso, 63-56 in OT to win the crown at the Michigan City Sectional.

The two morning winners win return for an 8:00 pm ET Regional championship game.

 

 

Class 3A - at Plymouth - Sectional # 19

Plymouth, John  Glenn, Jimtown, Marian, St. Joseph, Culver Academy, New Prairie

Marian is the defending 3A Sectional # 19 champion. Marian has only won two sectional titles in school history. Their title last year was the first one since 1969 when they won their 1st crown as the school had just opened two years earlier.

St. Joseph has won ten sectional titles, with their last one in 2001 in the 3A class. They won their first sectional crown in 1960. 

Plymouth leads the way with 34 sectional titles in school history. Their last one was in 2010. They won the 2007 3A state title, their second in school history to go along with their 1982 state title. John Glenn has won 4 sectionals, their last one coming in 2005 when they were in a 2A sectional. New Prairie won their only 3A sectional in 2003.  Jimtown has only 3 sectional titles, but their last won was in 2004 when they went on to win the 2A state championship. Culver Academy's only sectional crown was in 2011 when they went on to be the 3A state runner-up.
