Home » Football NewsFive NIC Schools playing for Football Sectional CrownsNovember 2, 2012 By Greg Humnicky of Northern Indiana ConferenceIHSAA Football Sectional Championship Games Friday, Nov 2 Class 5A - Sectional # 2 SB Adams (7-4) at FW Carroll (9-2) SB Adams earned a trip to the sectional final for the first time in school history as they beat Elkhart Central 49-28 last Friday. Adams QB Frank Karczewski threw 3 TD passes and ran for one TD to lead the Eagles. FW Carroll earned trip to the sectional finale with a 14-13 upset over defending sectional champ, Penn, when a Penn FG with seconds left went wide left. FINAL SCORE: FW Carroll 44-35 over SB Adams FW Carroll, now 10-2 on the season travels to Merrillville, also 10-2 on the year for the 5A Regional game.
Class 4A - Sectional #10 Mishawaka (8-3) at SB Washington (3-8) - School Field SB Washington handed once beaten New Prairie, a 36-14 loss to advance to to the sectional final at School Field where they will face a tough Mishawaka squad coming off a 49-28 win at Hobart. Washington's Daigien Morgan threw 2 TD passes and ran for one, plus running for a 2 point PAT to lead the Panthers. Mishawaka's Sam Schrader ran for four TDs to lead the Cavemen past the Brickies at Hobart. Mishawaka won the NIC game back on Oct 12 by a score of 44-30. Washington is the defending sectional champion. FINAL SCORE: Mishawaka 36-34 Overtime over SB Washington Mishawaka will host the 4A Regional and will play either Hammond Morton or Highland. The Cavemen won their 7th sectional title in school history, the most recent being back-to-back titles in 2009 & 2010 in Class 5A. Mishawaka takes a 9-3 season record into the Regional and will host Hammond Morton, a 34-0 sectional #9 championship game winner over Highland. Morton brings a 7-5 record into the Regional at Mishawaka.
Class 3A - Sectional #17 Marian (8-3) at St. Joseph (7-4) Marian used a strong second half surge to down the Falcons of Glenn, 42-20. Marian's Michael Whitfield tallied two Knight TDs, while Marian QB Vince Ravotto threw 2 TD passes and ran for one. St. Joseph posted a 35-0 shut-out of Calumet on the road as St. Joseph's Tajah Smith scored twice for St. Joe on a 61 yard run and catching a TD pass from Matt Monserez, who also tossed another one to Denton Gillis for 73 yards. St. Joseph won the NIC match-up, known as the "holy war" back on Sep 21 by a score of 35-21. St. Joseph is the defending sectional champion. FINAL SCORE: Marian 21-7 over St. Joseph
