NIC Schedule begins this week.

NIC Football Schedule - Friday, Aug 31

St. Joseph at Mishawaka *

St. Joseph travels to Mishawaka's Steele Stadium for their 3rd straight road game. The Indians are coming off a 35-7 win at Wawasee last Friday to even their record at 1-1. Mishawaka matches the 1-1 record as they fell to Penn last week in a non-league match-up, 21-7. St. Joseph has a 4-3 edge in games played since they joined the conference in 2005. St Joseph won last year's match-up 35-12.

FINAL SCORE: St. Joseph 34-20 over Mishawaka


St. Joseph scored 3 TDs in the 2nd quarter to defeat the Cavemen and run their record to 2-1 (NIC 1-0). Mishawaka got 2 TDs from Matt Carver, but fall to 1-2 (NIC 0-1). St. Joseph will open their new home stadium next Friday when undefeated Elkhart Central pays a visit. Mishawaka travels to Jackson Field to take on SB Riley.

 

Penn at Marian *

Penn, now 2-0, coming off a 21-7 win over city rival Mishawaka last week head back into the city of Mishawaka to take on Marian at Otolski Field. Marian dropped a 30-20 non-league match-up to Adams last week to drop to 1-1 on the season. Marian's last victory vs Penn came in the 1973 when both schools were members of the old NIVC.

FINAL SCORE: Penn 55-28 over Marian


Penn got 4 TDs form Zach Oakley as the Kingsmen roll to a 3-0 record (NIC 1-0). Marian, now 1-2 (NIC 0-1) will take on SB Clay at Clay Field next Friday, while Penn will take its 3-0 (NIC 1-0) mark to Fort Wayne Snider for a Saturday night game in an out of conference game.

 

 

SB Washington at Elkhart Central *

Elkahrt Central at 2-0 so far this young season takes on SB Washington at home at Rice Field. Central beat Goshen 27-10 while Washington earned their first win in a 33-7 win over visiting Michigan City. Washington has won the last three in the series as Central's last win came in 2008, although Central won by forfeit in 2010.

FINAL SCORE: Elkhart Central 51-42 over SB Washington


SB Washington came up short in this high scoring affair as Daigien Morgan threw two TDs passes and ran for 2 TDs. Washington drops to 1-2 (NIC 0-1) while Elkhart Central improves to 3-0 (NIC 1-0). Central travels to St. Joseph in South Bend next Friday. Elkhart Central got 5 TD passes from Nick Faus and he rushed for one score to account for 6 Blue Blazer scores.

 

SB Clay at SB Adams * (School Field)

Both squads are 2-0 so far as Adams knocked off Marian last week, 30-20 in non-league contest at Clay Field while Clay handled LaPorte on the road, 42-21. The winner can take a step toward the unofficial city championship and stay on top of the NIC standings. Clay has won the last 14 games in this city rivalry with the last Adams win coming in 1998.

FINAL SCORE: SB Adams 22-12 over SB Clay


For the second week in a row, the Eagles behind at half-time turned the tables and broke a 14 game skid vs the Colonials. Frank Karczewski threw 3 second-half TD passes. Matt Pinter caught the final two TD passes to secure the Adams win. Clay's Mitch Hartman had 2 TD passes. SB Adams now 3-0 (NIC 1-0) will face SB Washington in a Washington home game at School Field next Friday. Clay, now 2-1 (NIC 0-1) looks to rebound at home at Clay Field as they take on the visiting Marian Knights.

 

SB Riley - NIC BYE

Hammond Gavit at SB Riley (Jackson Field)

Riley looks to earn their first win of the year as they host visiting Hammond Gavit. The Wildcats dropped a tough 12-6 overtime game to Clay in their opener, but then lost to FW Wayne last Friday at Jackson Field, 28-7. Riley has won the last five games in this non-conference match-up.

FINAL SCORE: SB Riley 21-18 over Hammond Gavit


Riley got a late TD on a 2 yd run by Saul Carmona with 5 seconds left in the game to earn their first win. The Wildcats, now 1-2 on the season, host Mishawaka at Jackson Field next Friday night.

 

State-wide Football AP Poll: Week of Aug 27 (Week 3 of season)

Five NIC schools are ranked:

5A - Penn is 3rd       (5th in IFCA 5A)

4A - Concord is 6th, Mishawaka 12th (IFCA 11th) , SB Washington 15th (IFCA 15th)

3A - St. Joseph is 7th (IFCA 6th) , Marian is 11th (IFCA 7th)
