NIC goes 9-3 in the first two weeks of the football schedule

NIC Football Schedule - Friday, Aug 24 / Week 2

The NIC went 4-1 against non-conference foes this week, making it a two week mark of 9-3 vs non-conference teams the first two weeks of the season after going 5-2 in week 1.

Elkhart Central at Goshen

Elkhart Central (1-0) started the season with a solid 51-3 thrashing of city rival Elkhart Memorial on the road as they travel to neighboring Goshen (0-1) out of the NLC this Friday night. Goshen dropped their opener to FW Carroll, 45-7.

FINAL SCORE: Elkhart Central 27-10 over Goshen


The Blue Blazers, now 2-0 for the season, got TDs from Spencer Schnell on a punt return, while Akeem Purnell scored on a 39 yard run and Austin McArt returned an interception for a score. Central will host SB Washington next Friday in the NIC opener for each team.


Fort Wayne Wayne at SB Riley (Jackson Field)

Fort Wayne Wayne (0-1) comes to Jackson Field to take on SB Riley (0-1), who dropped a heartbreaker last week to city rival Clay in overtime, 12-6.  Wayne dropped their opener to Indpls Tech last week-end, 33-20.

FINAL SCORE: FW Wayne 28-7 over SB Riley


The Wildcats drop to 0-2 to start the season and will host Hammond Gavot next Friday night at Jackson Field in a non-conference game.

 

Michigan City at SB Washington (School Field)

SB Washington (0-1) dropped a 30-25 opener to Concord last Friday as they take on Duneland squad from Michigan City (1-0) who defeated Gary Roosevelt, 33-0 in their opener.

FINAL SCORE: SB Washington 33-7 over Michigan City


The Panthers evened their season record at 1-1 as they won their home opener at School Field by handling Michigan City with Daigen Morgan throwing 4 TDs and running for one more. Washington travels to Elkhart's Rice Field next week to take on the 2-0 Central Blue Blazers to open the NIC portion of the schedule.

 

Marian at SB Adams (Clay Field)

Marian (1-0) opened their season last week with a solid win agianst visiting DeKalb, 48-17 while SB Adams (1-0) traveled to Middlebury and defeated Northridge 46-20 in their opener. This is a non-conference match-up between this two NIC schools.

FINAL SCORE: SB Adams 30-20 over Marian


The Adams Eagles dominated the Marian Knights in the second half at Clay Field to run their record to 2-0 for the first time since 1991. Adams QB Frank Karczewski had a 200 yard passing night and Gavin Miller rushed for two TDs. Marian's record drops to 1-1 for the season and will host Penn next week at Otolski Field. Meanwhile Adams will look to go to 3-0 as they take on Clay at School Field.


South Bend Clay at LaPorte

SB Clay (1-0) escaped Riley in their opener against their city rival in overtime, 12-6 while LaPorte (0-1) was soundly defeated by New Prairie in their opener, 42-14.

FINAL SCORE: SB Clay 42-21 over LaPorte


Clay now 2-0 for the season got two TD passes from Mitch Hartman and Wesley Thomas scored 3 TDs on a kick-off return, a punt return and caught one of Hartman's TD passes. Clay heads to School Field next Friday to take on city rival Adams in a battle of city unbeatens. Clay has a 14 game win streak vs Adams dating back to 1998.

 

St. Joseph at Wawasee

St. Joseph (0-1) dropped their opener at Chesterton, 24-7 while Wawasee (1-0) won on the road at Whitko, 20-17.

FINAL SCORE: St. Joseph 35-7 over Wawasee


The Indians won their first game to even their record at 1-1 as they got over 400 yards of total offense at Wawasee, winning 35-7. St. Joseph travels to Mishawaka to open the NIC portion of the schedule for their 3rd straight road game.


Penn at Mishawaka

This NIC non-conference match-up features this two long-time neighborhood rivals at Steele Stadium with both schools winning their openers. Mishawaka (1-0) traveled to Portage and won in a shoot-out, 57-42 while Penn (1-0) won at home against Valparaiso, 35-28.

FINAL SCORE: Penn 21-7 over Mishawaka


In this back-yard city rivalry, the Penn offensive line dominated the Cavemen to run their record to 2-0, rushing for 281 yards with Tyler Carpenter rushing for 2 TDs and Matt Hummel getting one. Mishawaka's Sam Schrader scored their lone TD. Penn travels to Marian to open the NIC next week while Mishawaka , now 1-1, hosts St. Joseph.
