Girls’ Track & Field Mishawaka won the NIC Meet. Mishawaka won the Sectional at Bremen, by winning four (4) events.
Warsaw, out of the NLC, won the Warsaw Regional, winning one event, but scoring 2nd, 3rd & 4th places to win. SB Adams athlete Aaliyah McKinney won the 100 & 200 and was on the winning Adams 400 & 1600 m relay teams.
At the State Finals, no NIC teams finished in the top 20. The best NIC finish was SB Adams athlete Aaliyah McKinney 5th place finish in the 200m. Marian’s Shannon Hendricks had a 7th place finish in the 800m, while SB Riley’s Aiyana Gaines had an 8th place finish in the 400m. McKinney of Adams also had an 8th place finish in the 100m.
Boys’ Track & Field Penn won the NIC Meet. Penn won the Sectional, by winning seven (7) events. Penn won the Kokomo Regional, with seven NIC schools scoring points, with the NIC taking three of the top four sports. The NIC had ten 1st place finishes at the Regional.
At the State Finals, Penn finished 4th in the State on the strength of two 1st place finishes. Kyle Johnston won the Pole Vault while their 400 m Relay team (Joseph Weller, Conner Sowders, Thomas Grant, Tim Deal) won the event. Three NIC schools (Penn-28, SB St. Joseph’ - 6 & SB Clay 2) scored points at the State Finals. St. Joseph’s Joey Zielinski finished 6th in the 1600 m while teammate Joe Demaegd was 8th in the discus throw. SB Clay’s Tony Shead finished 6th in the high jump. Penn also got a 7th place in 200m from Thomas Grant and their 1600 m Relay team finished 5th.
Baseball St. Joseph’s won the NIC regular season with a 14-2 record. (Their 1st ).
4A Sectional results – Penn defeated Mishawaka, 7-6 for the Sectional championship at Clay Field. Elkhart Central won the Elkhart Memorial Sectional defeating Concord for the title. 3A Sectional results – Marian won the Plymouth Sectional beating Jimtown, 6-0 for the Sectional title. Marian defeated NIC Champion St. Joseph’s in the semi-finals, 7-2.
In the 4A Regional at LaPorte, both Penn and Elkhart Central lost to Duneland schools. Penn beat Valparaiso, 14-5, but Elkhart Central lost to Lake Central 2-1, but then Penn lost to Lake Central for the Regional crown, 3-1. Lake Central won the Semi-state and advanced to the State Finals. In the 3A Regional at Plymouth, Marian lost to Western, 2-1 in the 1st round.
Softball SB Riley won the NIC regular season with an 8-0 record.
SB Riley beat Penn for the 4A Sectional title at Penn. Northridge defeated Riley, 6-2 to win the Regional at Riley to advance to the Semi-State.
In the 3A Sectional, St. Joseph’s upset #1 ranked Marian (3A) in a 1st round match-up. St. Joseph’s won the 3A Sectional title at Newton Park defeating Jimtown, 5-3.
St. Joseph’s defeated Twin Lakes, 7-6 in (8 in the Regional match-up at Newton Park in Lakeville to advance to the Twin Lakes Semi-State.
St. Joseph’s lost to Woodlan, 11-4 in the Semi-state 1st round.
Girls’ Tennis Penn won the NIC with an 8-0 record in dual matches.
Penn & St. Joseph’s won their respective sectionals, Penn won the Regional , defeating Chesterton, 5-0 for the Regional title, advancing to the LaPorte Semi-State. St. Joseph’s lost to Chesterton, 3-2 in the 1st round of the Regional. Penn defeated Culver Academy, 5-0 at the Semi-State to advance to the State Finals.
At the State Finals, Evansville Memorial edged Penn, 3-2 in the Friday quarterfinals. Evansville Memorial won the state title by beating Carmel and Indianapolis Cathedral by 3-2 scores.
In the IHSAA individual state singles tournament, Penn’s Alexandra Brinker won the Individual Singles State championship, finishing the season 24-1. At the Individual Doubles Regional St. Joseph’s duo of Darby Mountford and Alaina Robert were defeated by Highland, 6-4, 6-1.
Boys’ Golf Penn finished 8-0 in duals, but Marian won the NIC Meet creating a tie for the NIC championship with Penn, who finished 2nd one stroke behind Marian.
At the Riley Sectional at Erskine Penn finished in 1st Place and Marian was 3rd to advance to LaPorte Regional. At the Fairfield Sectional, Elkhart Central’s Jeffrey Bradford was the Sectional medalist, but Central failed to advance as a team as they finished 4th.
At the LaPorte Regional, Marian and Penn finished 2nd and 3rd out of field of 12 schools to advance to the State Finals.
At the State Finals, Penn scored a 312, good for 9th place on the 1st day to advance, but Marian scored a 337 and did not advance. Penn had a 2nd day score of 321, good for a two day score of 633 for 9th Place at State Finals.
