Update from Coach Brunette

August 28, 2014
By Andy Elkins of Indianapolis North Central High School

Your NCMT Panthers came out firing against the Trojans Wednesday evening, not wasting any time to win the first set across the board. The #1 Doubles pair of Senior, Reigning the 2013 Doubles State Title, Patrick McAuley and Junior JT Wynne were the first ones off with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The Senior duo of Palmer Purcell and Nate Bercovitz were not far behind with their 6-2 6-2 performance at #2 Doubles. Junior JJ Kroot picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at #2 singles while Senior Alex Bertolini won 7-6 (4), 6-0. Rounding out the 5-0 sweep was Ari Gerstein taking down CG's Conner Anderson 6-2, 7-6 (3) at #1 Singles. The Varsity team picks up it's first road win of the season and moves to 3-0.

The JV team swept CG 6-0, winning 3 singles and 3 doubles matches. Holbrook Hankinson, Abe Lahr, Ash Mahenthiran, Parker Reist, Jack Theising and Simon Shamo all took care of business for your Panthers, improving the JV record to 3-0.

Varsity and JV will practice tomorrow to prepare for the John Shirley Invitational on Saturday, featuring the top teams from the IHSAA. This will be the Panthers first true test to see what the field has to bring to the table this season.

Great job to a hot start, but everyone should be focused on working hard at practice tomorrow and Friday to gear up for a long, intense day of tennis on Saturday.
