18th Annual John Shirley Men’s Tennis Invitational

Thank you for agreeing to play in our John Shirley Men’s Tennis Invitational. This tournament is one of the premier tennis tournaments in the state. Here is the information that you will need for the invitational. 

  • Saturday, August 30, 2014 - North Central High School.
  • Time schedule:           Time and format are tentative and subject to change without notice.

 

7:30 am:  Coaches meeting.

8:00 am:  First round matches begin all of the Shirley Division and the number one and two       singles flights for the Buckley Division.

11:00am:  Second round matches begin.

2:00pm:  Championship rounds begin.

**Award ceremonies will take place at the conclusion of each division**

  • Specific court assignments and the scheduling of the matches will be reviewed at the coaches meeting.

  • At the end of the invitational, in planning for the following year, the top team in the Byron Buckley Division will move up to the John Shirley Division while the last team in the John Shirley will move down to the Byron Buckley Division
  • Scoring will be as follows: Championship 12, Runner-up 7, 3rd Place 5, 4th Place 3, 5th Place, 4, 6th Place 2, 7th Place 1, 8th Place 0.
  • All matches will be two (2) out of three (3) sets with a match tie break (to 10) for the third set.
  • Trophies will go to the individual winners in each division and to the winning school in each division.
  • Substitutions will be allowed only after the first round and prior to the second round within the same position. No subsequent substitutions will be allowed. A player who defaults a match due to an injury can be replaced. However, the substitute can only earn lower points for the subsequent rounds.
  • In the event of a tie for last place, the tie break will be as follows: total matches won, least amount of sets lost and if necessary, total games won.
