NC Sweeps Warriors in Girl-Boy DH

January 26, 2013
By Rob Hendrix of Indianapolis North Central High School

A 2nd quarter surge put the Panthers in command, and despite a late run by Warren Central, North Central emerged victorious over the Warriors 69-62 in boys' basketball on Friday night.  NC's inside duo of Darius Latham and Perry Poindexter combined for 31 points to lead the team.  Eron Gordon and Wade Stallings, NC's starting backcourt, had 11 and 10 points respectively.  The Panthers are now 10-and-4 and will play at Terre Haute North next Friday night.  The game was part of a doubleheader featuring both the girls and boys' teams playing on the same night.  The evening also featured a salute to North Central coach Doug Mitchell.  Several of his former players attended the event in celebration of his 20th year as head coach at NC.

The North Central girls had no problem defeating their counterparts from Warren.  Celeste Edwards exploded for 25 points and Tia Ewing added 12 as the Lady Panthers trounced Warren 58-21. Coach DeeAnn Ramey's team is now 10-and-7 on the season and will play their final two regular season games at home this week.  Tuesday, they host Kokomo and Friday night they play Mt. Vernon.
