The Wrestling Gods ... Of if you're monotheistic ... The Wrestling God ... Didn't smile on North Central today. For those of you who don't think there's a God ... All I can say is, "Oh well".
Already missing a wrestler at 138 lbs., injury and illness deprived our team of three more wrestlers (152, 160 & our #1 seed at 170 lbs.). Fourteen State Ranked wresters participated. There were exciting "finals" matches when they competed against each other at 120, 220 & 285 lbs.. And Lawrence North's #9 ranked wrestler at 138 lbs. was upset by Terre Haute South. Another Terre Haute South wrestler, with a six-pack you could see through his singlet, was the focus-of-the-day for our NC women fans.
Team Results: State ranked #3 Warren Central (8 Champions) carried the day, with State ranked #9 Center Grove (2 Champions) finishing a distant second.
Ben Davis (1 Champion) edged out Carmel (1 Champion) for third.
Lawrence North and Terre Haute South (2 Champions) tied for fifth. And NC finished 7th ahead of Terre Haute North.
Outstanding Performances:
North Central's top wrestler was Seth Issacs (JR 182 lbs.) - Terre Haute North forfeited, Seth dominated Lawrence North 14-6, and then Seth wrestled his best match of the year against his Warren Central opponent (10th Sate ranked). A takedown by WC was the difference and Seth finished 2nd. Trevon Williams (SR 220 lbs.) - Trevon's first event since suffering a shoulder injury at the Ben Davis dual meet ... Trevon defeated his Ben Davis opponent twice to finish 3rd. Sweet revenge!!
Preston Daniels (SR 195 lbs.) - Preston demolished Center Grove and dominated Terre Haute South to finish 4th.
Michel Vaulx (JR 132 lbs.) - Pinned his opponent from Lawrence North to finish 5th.
Congratulations to Seth, Trevon, Preston, Michel and Kylan!!
New Category - Win the Last Match:
No matter what kind of day you're having, to win your last match sets the tone for the next event. Our next event is Sectional, the most important event of the year!
Trevon (5-0 Decision) & Michel (Pin) wrestled great all day.
Peter Nickelsberg (JR 145 lbs.) - Pinned his opponent from Terre Haute North to finish 7th.
Mitchell Kessler (SO 285 lbs.) - Decisioned his Lawrence North opponent 5-3 to finish 7th.
It will be very entertaining to watch these four at Sectional. Best Looking Bus & Bus Driver:
For the second time ... Obviously North Central's bus and Patsy Watkins!
I have no doubt they will three-peat later this season!!
If I was a Warren Central grad I'd say ... Patsy should also be our bus driver for Home events.
New Award - Coldest Gym in the State:
Hands-down ... Warren Central. We all kept our coats on because it was freezing. I often went outside to warm-up and ...
Next Event:
The most important event of the year ... Sectional, January 26, 2013. The event has been moved to:
I haven't been inside Arlington since 1969. Over those years the school has had its ups-and-downs, and this event will be a big "UP" for them.
It will be fun to see the school again and watch our North Central Panther Wrestlers!!
