Home » General NewsBuzzer-Beater Gives Panthers Road WinJanuary 18, 2013 By Rob Hendrix of Indianapolis North Central High SchoolNorth Central senior Darius Latham hit a fall-away, 10-foot shot as time expired giving the Panthers an exciting 59-57 win over Lawrence North Friday night. A few seconds earlier Latham had missed a shot coming out of a timeout Coach Doug Mitchell had called with 12 seconds left in the game. After Latham's miss the Panthers kept the ball alive before it landed back in the hands of the 6'5" post player who nailed the game winner. The Panthers gave themselves a chance, however in the 3rd quarter, when North Central climbed back into the game turning a nine-point deficit into a 2-point advantage. Freshman Eron Gordon keyed that comeback hitting two big 3-pointers while adding a few buckets slashing to the basket. Gordon led the Panthers with 22 points. He also grabbed 6 rebounds. Latham had another solid game for the 8-and-4 Panthers, He had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Perry Poindexter pulled down six rebounds while scoring 4 points for NC. Five players scored off the North Central bench led by Jeff Harris, who had 7 points. Chandler Rowe (3 pts, 8 reb), Michael Loggan (2 pts, 1 reb) and Aaron Banks (2 pts.) played well in reserve roles. The Panther bench outscored LN's 14-2. North Central is back in action Saturday afternoon when they host Muncie Central in a 5:30 tipoff.
