NC vs. Carmel
A well coached, but young Carmel team visited North Central tonight.
After the first four matches, which included a forfeit to Carmel at 220 lbs. (6 points), the score was tied 12-12.
But then the roof-fell-in:
Three more forfeits (18 points), and four close losses resulted in a Carmel victory, 54-12.
Seth Issacs (JR 182 lbs.) PINNED his opponent after inventing a new wrestling move he used twice. His parents (Amy & Dwayne), and I decided to call it the "Tackle".
Preston Daniels (SR 195 lbs.) dominated his opponent to win 7-0.
Mitchell Kessler (SO 285 lbs.) fought hard for six minutes and won his match 1-0. We were all cheering and at the same time holding-our-breath.
Six Minute Men:
Jhonatan Pasten (JR 120 lbs.)
Venu Bangla (JR 126 lbs.)
Michel Vaulx (138 lbs.)
Marcos Angulo (152 lbs.)Seth Issacs (JR 182 lbs.) - Finished 4th out of 32 wrestlers.
40th Annual Connersville Spartan Wrestling Classic - December 28 & 29, 2012
Seth Issacs (JR 182 lbs.) - Finished 4th out of 32 wrestlers.
After losing his first match to the eventual Champion (Western), Seth rallied by pinning Knightstown and defeating Western Boone, "Indianapolis Cathedral", Hamilton Heights, the Indianapolis City Champ from "Cardinal Ritter" and Indian Creek.
Congratulations to Seth on an excellent performance!!
Connersville is always a grueling and interesting two-day tournament.
There is no "seeding", so the brackets are "supposed-to-be" determined by a "blind draw".
Regardless, Connersville was ahead after the first day, but "somehow" slipped to 3rd or 4th by the end.
I don't know for sure because Connersville's Spartan Stadium still doesn't have Wi-Fi, and like Hamilton Heights and Decatur Central they don't publish the results on-line. And we have a woeful Indianapolis Star.
Last year four teams ranked in the State Top-20 competed.
This year there were two, Fort Wayne Carroll (11th), the eventual Champion (I think), and East Noble (15th), who had Champions at the three lowest weight classes.
Maybe it's time for North Central to go-the-way of Evansville Reitz, last year's Class AAA Champ who was "missing this year", and either start its own Holiday Tournament, or go someplace closer-to-home?
The Alumni Day Weigh-In is this Friday, January 4th, from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2514 Lake Circle Drive (Northwest Quadrant, 86th Street & Township Line Road).
Then Alumni Day is January 5th, the North Central Invitational. Cathedral, Greenfield-Central, Southmont, Logansport, Lawrence Central, Westfield and 10th ranked Hamilton Southeastern will compete with North Central.
Everyone is invited to both events. Since I grew-up in the 60's I can say ... Be there or be square!!
