Home » General NewsLady Panthers Capture Tourney TitleDecember 30, 2012 By Rob Hendrix of Indianapolis North Central High SchoolFor the first time since 2006, the North Central women's basketball team has won the annual North Central Holiday Tournament. The Lady Panthers defeated the 2 time defending champions Springboro (OH) Panthers by a 46-37 score in the championship contest. For most of the game it looked as though North Central's Celeste Edwards might outscore the entire Springboro team. Edwards made 11 of 24 shots, made 4 three pointers and hit 3 of 8 free throws in a 29 point performance. Edwards also recorded 5 steals and 4 rebounds in a 32-minute effort. A third quarter surge put NC ahead for good in a game that was a good defensive battle. Kyra Taylor added 8 points and Karen Shabazz 6 points as Coach DeeAnn Ramey's team evened it's season record at 5-and-5. Penny Ingram pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds. The Lady Panthers are back in action New Year's Eve when they host Terre Haute North in a 12:30 tip.
