Lady Panther's Basketball Preview

November 14, 2012
By Rob Hendrix of Indianapolis North Central High School

Eight months after winning an IHSAA 4A Girls' Basketball State Championship, the North Central Lady Panthers will begin their defense of the title beginning Friday night when they face Mooresville.

Coach DeeAnn Ramey returns 2 regular starters and 7 other players from last year's team.  Athletic perimeter player Celeste Edwards brings her all-around game back for the Lady Panthers.  Ramey says Edwards has improved her already effective shooting to go along with her scoring prowess.  What impresses Coach Ramey the most though is Celeste's ability to defend.  She believes Edwards has a shot at Miss Basketball and most certainly is a strong candidate for the All-Star team.  Jasmine Falcon also brings her strong inside game back for the 2012-13 season.  The long, athletic Falcon, can be a presence inside and should be a reliable rebounder for the team.

Asia Greene, Tia Ewing, Shelby Owens and Penny Ingram bring speed, toughness and strong defense to go along with their offensive skills.  Sophomore Kyra Taylor, along with Quintianna LeShore will provide valuable playing time for NC.

The Lady Panthers will again play one of the state's most difficult schedules.  Four of the eight MIC conference teams are pre-season top 10 in the state.  In addition to playing those opponents, NC will face last year's 3A finalist Mt. Vernon, Kokomo, and top 20 teams Pike and Greenwood.  The Lady Panthers will also host the annual NC Holiday Tournament on December 27th and 28th.

NC was 23 and 5 in their state title season last year, Coach Ramey's first year as head coach.  They begin the season with a 9-game winning streak with their last loss going all the way back to January 27th when they lost to Warren Central.
