September 4, 2012North Central Conference
Logansport’s volleyball team bounced back from a tough loss to Pioneer earlier in the week with a runner-up finish at the Logan Classic on Saturday.
Logan won its first three matches of the day before falling against Lawrence North in the title match. The Berries are now 6-2 on the season.
“It was a good day. The kids played really hard,” Berry coach Jon Vernon said. “We bounced back from our match against Pioneer. We played really well.
“Lawrence North just beat Avon the week before, and Avon was ranked 11th in the nation. We were right with them. We had a couple of runs and were right in it. I was very pleased with the effort.”
Westfield finished third in the Classic, followed by Huntington North, Portage, Manchester, South Bend Washington and Knox.
“There were pretty good teams here this weekend. It was a good day for us and I was pleased with how we bounced back,” Vernon said.
The Berries defeated Manchester (25-8, 25-5), Portage (25-15, 25-14) and South Bend Washington (25-8, 26-24) and were defeated by Lawrence North (25-21, 25-19).
Syd Bullard and Alaina Page each had 20 kills on the day for Logan. Bullard added 14 digs. Kiley Victor had 14 kills to go with 28 digs. Katie Easter collected 34 digs and eight aces. Bailey Kelley dished 23 assists and Hannah Jones added 21.
The Berries travel to Harrison on Tuesday.
