Logansport’s girls soccer team was routed at Plymouth a year ago, but that was certainly not the case against the Pilgrims Saturday at the LHS soccer field.

The Berries were defeated by a 4-3 decision in a closely contested game.

Logan coach Todd Reiff said his squad just missed on a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds.

“We had a good shot on goal with 10 seconds left that would have tied it,” he said. “We definitely had opportunities at the end of the game to score another goal. We just missed on a couple of goals.”

Logan was defeated at Plymouth 6-0 a year ago in a game that was shortened by thunderstorms.

“The team is way ahead of last year,” Reiff said. “I’m not sure they realize how good they are. We just need to work on the small details.”

Logan trailed 3-1 at halftime. Reiff said the first goal was a memorable one.

“It was on a beautiful corner kick by Bailey Graham, and Whitney Jennings got as high as she could and hit it in,” he said.

Logan outscored Plymouth 2-1 in the second half, coming up just short. Seanna Redman had both second-half goals, and Mallory Rowe had an assist.

“Mallory had a great assist to Seanna, and Whitney got the ball through to her as well on the other goal,” Reiff said. “We did a great job of beating their back four. We had a number of opportunities to put more goals in. We had a lot more shots, opportunities right in front of the goal. We have to work on finishing.

“We made a few mistakes defensively. We forgot about one of their girls and they made a cross and nobody was defending at all. We had a couple other breakdowns on simple things we should have done right. The basics are taken care of, now we have to work on some of the details.”

Logan (1-1) travels to West Lafayette Monday.
