New Castle Boys Win Opener

New Castle 1, Greenfield 0 

The Trojan boys soccer team opened successfully, gaining its first victory over Greenfield in eight years.

The lone goal of the game was scored by Andrew Pheffer with two minutes remaining in the first half, as he pressured the defense and goalkeeper.

New Castle then weathered several offensive attacks by the Cougars in the second half to preserve the shutout. Zach Millikan had eight keeper saves for New Castle.

The boys junior varsity team had a 1-1 tie. Tyler Broyles scored the New Castle goal early in the second half. Greenfield scored later on a penalty kick. Sam Thompson and Taylor Matthews each had four saves for the Trojan reserves.

New Castle is at Connersville tonight.
