Texas Powerhouses Remain No. 1 and No. 2 in NJCAA Football Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In the third NJCAA football poll of the 2011 season, Navarro College (Texas) and Blinn College (Texas) are still ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Advancing in the poll, No. 3 Arizona Western College and No. 4 Northwest Mississippi Community College both moved up two spots following impressive victories in week two.

Coming off an open date, Navarro fell to 138 points after losing a first-place vote. The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday when they host Tyler Junior College (Texas) who received eight points in this week’s poll.

Following a 49-14 win over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Blinn received their first first-place vote of the 2011 season and first since winning the National Championship in 2009. The Buccaneers head into their open date this week with 132 points in the poll.

Another recipient of their first first-place vote of the season was Northwest Mississippi. The Rangers claimed a road win Thursday, beating East Central Community College (Miss.) 42-19. The victory was Northwest Mississippi’s 13th consecutive regular season win dating back to 2009. This week, the Rangers host No. 8 East Mississippi Community College. The Lions of East Mississippi moved up one spot in the rankings after a 20-17 win at Hinds Community College (Miss.).

Butler Community College (Kan.) received 112 points and is the highest ranked team with a loss at No. 5. The Grizzlies are followed by No. 6 Iowa Western Community College with 106 points and No. 7 Snow College (Utah) with 102 points. Rounding out the Top 10 are No. 9 Grand Rapids Community College(Mich.) with 78 points and No. 10 Trinity Valley Community College (Texas) with 74 points.

Due to a 40-7 loss at Air Force Prep, Hutchinson Community College (Kan.) plummeted 12 spots in the rankings down to No. 15. After losing their first two games of the season, No. 16 Georgia Military fell out of the Top 20 for the first time since September 2010.

The third regular season NJCAA Football Poll will be announced on Sept. 20.
