Top 10 Clashes Surround Week of NJCAA Women's Basketball

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Another week of Top 10 matchups has descended upon NJCAA women’s basketball. With key games taking place in all three divisions, teams will try to maintain their success as the postseason quickly approaches.

Wednesday will be a landmark day for all of the top-ranked squads in Division I. No. 1 Trinity Valley Community College (Texas) will defend their 20-0 record at Blinn College (Texas) in their first of two back-to-back games against each other. No. 3 Central Arizona College has a challenging interdivisional game at No. 10 Pima Community College(Ariz.) out of Division II. Out West, No. 5 Casper College (Wyo.) will host Western Wyoming CC who still has an outside shot at claiming the Region 9 North title.

The two biggest contests in Division I’s Wednesday lineup feature Top 10 teams battling it out for conference supremacy. In the KJCCC (Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference), No. 6 Seward County Community College (Kan.) welcomes in No. 2 Hutchinson Community College (Kan.). Although the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson are 20-0 this season, both teams boast a 7-0 conference record and the winner will take over first place in the Western Division.

In the Sunshine State, No. 4 Pensacola State College (Fla.) travels to No. 9Northwest Florida State College for a Panhandle Conference showdown. The Pensacola State Pirates are riding a four-game win streak, while Northwest Florida State will try to stop the bleeding after suffering two losses last week. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm (CST) and can be viewed at http://www.psblive.com/.

In Friday’s main event, No. 5 Montgomery College-Rockville (Md.) will host No. 3Roxbury Community College (Mass.) in the Game of the Week for Division III. With both teams averaging over 78 points per game this season, expect the sparks to fly as the Tigers of Roxbury put their second-ranked offense up against Montgomery-Rockville’s attack which ranks fourth. 

Six ranked teams from all three divisions will go head-to-head Saturday in another big day of women’s hoops. In Division I, No. 4 Pensacola State College (Fla.) will continue their road trip at No. 19 Chipola College (Fla.). Out of Division III, No. 7Northampton Community College (Pa.) will pay a visit to No. 8 Ocean County College (Fla.) who is led by a two-time Division III Player of the Week in sophomore center Elizabeth Lawler.

Saturday’s lineup of games will also feature the Division II Game of the Week. No. 1 Johnson County Community College (Kan.) will try to stay on top of the KJCCC Eastern Division when they take on No. 4 Highland Community College (Kan.) at home. The Highland Scotties’ only loss this season was a 68-51 defeat at the hands of Johnson County.

The first full week of February will begin with two top-notch games in Divisions I and II. No. 8 Northern Oklahoma College-Enid will put their 17-2 record to the test when they head to Seminole State College (Okla.) in a Division I face-off. In Division II, No. 7 Illinois Valley Community College will be at home against No. 20 Kishwaukee College (Ill.).
