Rams boys' basketball team bounces back to win 2 in a row

Newton's boys' basketball team bounced back to win 2 straight region road games last week both in OT. After closing out 2012 with a record of 10-3, the Rams had dropped 4 straight games, all competitive, including a doubled OT loss to Luella 81-78. But the Rams regrouped and found a way to get back into the wide-open region race to the championship winning at Druid Hills 45-43 in overtime on Tuesday and at Lovejoy 57-53 in overtime. In a November 2012 article in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Region 2-AAAAAA was named the deepest boys' basketball region in the state, and it has lived up to the hype. No team is undefeated in region, and the race for the top spot is now more wide open than ever. Most team in the region have numerous giants, yet the Rams start no player over 6'3. But the Rams make no excuses and just keep fighting, as last week shows. The Rams have won two out of the last three region titles in Region 2, and won't quit in their quest to make some noise at the end of the season yet again. Winning two tough region road games gets Newton 12-7 (3-4) back in the hunt and give them a shot in the arm as the season moves on and the region tournament draws closer. Congrats Rams on your big wins last week. Keep up the good work.
