Annabelle Dockins and Rachel Wineman jumped their way into the IHSAA Track and Field State Finals from Tuesday's regional at Shelbyville.
Dockins qualified for the finals with a second-place finish in the long jump. Her third jump was 16-10.5, good enough to give her second place in the event. She was runner-up to Warren Central's Caitlyn Redmon (18-0), and was 2.75 inches clear of the cutoff for qualifying for the State Finals.
In the high jump, Rachel Wineman took third -- the final transfer spot into the State Finals -- with a jump of 5-2. She won a tiebreaker over Columbus East's Erin Mack on fewest jumps. Taylor Pennington of Center Grove (5-5.25) was the regional champion.
NP had one other competitor at the regional, and she also made a strong showing, as Sarah Schwartz finished fifth in the 1600 meter run, with a time of 5:31.06. She was 17.75 seconds shy of advancing to the State Finals. The track and field State Finals will be held Friday, June 6 at Indiana University.
