SB: Dragons win Chatard tourney

The New Palestine softball team won the Chatard tournament over the weekend, with two 10-run victories.
In the opener, the Dragons beat Chatard 13-3, with a three-run first and a five-run third inning getting the team going. NP also scored four runs in the seventh.
At the plate, Abby O'Connor led the way, going 4-5 with a double and three RBI. Adie Lorsung was 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Casey Lehman was 3-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Issy Hoyt and Markie Wood had a pair of singles each. Madison Whitaker, Brittany Duncan and Elisha Barker also all had hits.
Kaylin McMurray and Barker split the pitching duties, with McMurray getting the win and Barker finishing things out. They allowed five hits and two earned runs.
In the championship game, the Dragons beat Lawrence Central 11-1 in six innings, buoyed by a six-run first.
Lehman and Lorsung led a 10-hit attack, each going 3-4. Lehman had a double and three RBI, while Lorsung hit two doubles and scored four runs. Hoyt was 2-4 with two runs and an RBI. Addi Clouse had a double and two RBI. Whitaker, Mary Crumlin and O'Connor each had a hit and an RBI. Wood and Duncan each had hits.
McMurray and Barker again split pitching duties, with McMurray throwing five innings to get the win and Barker closing out the sixth. They combined to allow three hits.
The Dragons are now 19-3, and host No. 2 Greenwood in a matchup of top-10 teams Monday.
