GBB: Dragons drop finale to Connersville

The New Palestine Dragons dropped a low-scoring regular season finale 33-28 to the Connersville Spartans Thursday night.
The Dragons rallied twice from sizable deficits, scoring the final seven points of the first half to cut an eight-point deficit to 13-12, and again coming back from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take a 25-23 lead with 3:15 left on Emma Laughlin's runner in the lane.
But the Spartans scored the game's next seven points, starting with a three-point play by guard Taylor Stephen, and were able to hold off the Dragons in the closing minutes.
Natalie Kehrt led the Dragons with 12 points, knocking down two 3-pointers and hitting 6-of-8 from the line. Laughlin had four points. Haley Stratman, Mary Crumlin and Raegan McMurray each scord three.Katlyn Keele had eight rebounds as the Dragons outrebounded the Spartans 29-26. McMurray had four boards and two assists. The Dragons held Connersville to 27 percent shooting.
Stephen led Connersville with 18 points, six rebounds and eight steals.
The Dragons finish the regular season 9-10. Their next game will be Feb. 14 in the Whiteland sectional against either Whiteland or Greenwood.
