BSW: Dragons 2nd in 3-way

February 4, 2014
By Andrew Smith of New Palestine High School

The Dragon boys swim team was second in a three-way meet with Roncalli and Greenwood Monday night. The Dragons tallied 89 points to Roncalli's 111 and Greenwood's 72.
Winners for New Palestine were Conner Page in diving and the 200 free relay of Grant Gish, Todd Horn, Chris Dodd and David Thompson.
Placing secnod were Luke Reed in the 200 IM, Isaiah Sturm in diving and Chris Dodd in the 100 breaststroke. The 200 medley relay of Jake Mitchell, Dodd, Gish and Horn also placed second.

"The boys have been training hard lately in preparation for their sectional championship in three weeks, and had a tough weight practice Monday morning.  I knew they would be a little tight and pretty sore for the meet;but they swam through it pretty well," Dragon coach Steve Maxwell said.

"We go into every meet with a purpose; but, sometimes that purpose has more to do with assessing technique, stroke improvement, or some other point we have been emphasizing in practice than in how fast we're going. That was the case in last night's meet.  Questions about who will swim what events at sectional, or relay orders, or seeing what a swimmer's secondary event for sectional should be was the primary purpose of this meet. The boys have worked hard to minimize the disruption to their training the weather has caused us.  I was really proud of the guys last night."
