GBB: Dragons win 3rd straight

The New Palestine girls basketball team won its third straight game Thursday, leading from wire-to-wire in a 47-38 victory over Beech Grove.
Junior guard Emma Laughlin scored a career-high 19 points and had eight steals, while sophomore guard Haley Stratman scored 12.
The win gave the Dragons an 8-8 record, and marked their first three-game winning streak since Jan. 12-21, 2012.
The Dragons had another strong defensive start, outscoring BG 13-2 in the opening quarter -- the third time in the last two games the Dragons held a team to just two points in a quarter, and the fourth time this season the Dragons had done so. NP's defense held Beech Grove to 28 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers.
Laughlin had a good start, with 13 first-half points and adding six in the second half. She also had three assists, three rebounds and eight steals. She hit 6-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the line. Stratman knocked down four 3-pointers for her 12 points. She also had four rebounds. Raegan McMurray added seven points and a team-high five rebounds. Mary Crumlin had a career-high five points and three boards off the bench. Gia Nitschke added two points, three assists, two boards and four steals, whilei Katlyn Keele had four rebounds.
The Dragons shot 41 percent from the floor (16-39) and 78 percent (11-14) from the line. They led by as many as 17 points in the game, and never trailed.
Lizzie Giller led BG with 11 points and six boards. Bre Hurt had 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.
The Dragons begin a three-game road swing Saturday afternoon at Rushville. JV tip is noon.
