BBB: Dragons rally for win over Delta

The New Palestine Dragons rallied from a 12-point deficit to beat Delta 56-50 Friday night, improving to 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in HHC play.
Delta used two early nine-point runs to take leads of 9-2 and 23-11, and then led 26-17 going into halftime. The Dragons couldn't cut the lead below seven until the early stages of the fourth quarter, when they begn chipping away, led by point guard Samson Haynes, who scored eight of his career-high 10 points in the final quarter, and guard Ryan Curry, who had 13 of his team-high 16 points in the final eight minutes.
Kevin Riley and Ryan Curry hit big 3-pointers in the comeback. Trailing 48-46, Brandon Jonas' baseline drive tied the game. After the Dragons forced a turnover, Haynes drove in from the left side and dished the ball to Connor Roach at the rim, whose layup gave the Dragons the lead for good at 50-48. Another defensive stop netted a foul, and Curry knocked down the first two of six straight free throws to ice the game.
Curry finished the night with 16 points, including 9-11 from the line. He also had five rebounds. Jonas had 12 points and 11 rebounds, his second double-double of the year and the third posted by a Dragon this season. Haynes had 10 points and six assists, as well as four rebounds. Seth Cox and Roach had six rebounds each. Cox also had three blocked shots, while Roach had a team-best two steals.
Jalen Robinson led Delta with 21 points.
The Dragons scored half of their points in the fourth quarter -- outscoring the Eagles 28-15 in the final eight minutes. It's their second comeback from a double-digit deficit to win this season, and first come-from-behind win in the fourth quarter.
The Dragons are now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in HHC play. They next play Friday, Jan. 17, at home against Pendleton Heights. HancockCountySports.com will broadcast the game.
