BBB: Dragons rout Beech Grove

The New Palestine basketball team used a big second quarter to beat Beech Grove 66-41 Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons' Ryan Curry hit a 3-pointer to end the first quarter, and then the Dragons outscored BG 18-4 in the second quarter. The run turned a 12-10 deficit into a 31-16 hafltime lead. A 24-point fourth quarter allowed the Dragons to pull away -- fueled by 3-pointers by Duke Blackwell and Keegan Lytle.
Curry scored 23 points, hitting 7-of-13 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line. He also had two rebounds and two steals. Seven-foot center Seth Cox had a career-high 17 points -- his second career-high game in three outings. He hig 7-of-9 from teh floor, and added a team-high seven rebounds.
The Dragons got solid performances from throughout the lineup. Cody Long had six points and six rebounds, both career highs, off the bench. Brandon Jonas had six points and five boards. Connor Roach had five points, three assists and four boards.
Lytle and Blackwell had solid nights off the bench. Lytle had a team-high six assists and two rebounds. Blackwell had three assistts, two steals and a block.
NP shot 53 percent from the field (25-47) and 76 percent from the line (10-13). The Dragons also outrebounded BG 33-15.
New Palestine (5-2) heads back into HHC play with a home game Jan. 10 against Delta. JV tip is 6 p.m. HancockCountySports.com will broadcast the varsity game.
