BBB: Barton wins 100th in win at Jennings County
December 15, 2013By Andrew Smith of New Palestine High School
The New Palestine Dragons pulled away in the third quarter and beat Jennings County 61-54. It was Adam Barton's 100th win in nine seasons as the Dragons' coach.
Ryan Curry scored 25 points, two shy of the career high he tied on Friday, including 18 in the second half. Connor Roach added a career-high 16 points for the Dragons, who shot better than 50 percent from the floor.
The game was tied 24-24 at halftime, but the Dragons used a hot start to the second half to build a 44-35 lead after three. Jennings County scored the first seven points of the fourth to cut the lead to two, but Curry answered with the next seven points and Seth Cox followed with a basket to lead a 9-1 run that put NP up 53-45. The Dragons pushed the lead as high as 12.
The victory was the Dragons' third straight. They are now 3-1 on the season.
Coach Barton's 100 wins ties him with Wally Cones (1954-63) for third on the all-time NPHS boys basketball coaching wins list. Brian Kehrt (126) and Ed Frieje (117) hold the top two spots.
Next weekend, the Dragons will host Westfield on Friday, and then travel to nearby Franklin Central on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast by HancockCountySports.com.
