December 9, 2013By Andrew Smith of New Palestine High School
The Dragons had several players named to the IFCA and AP All-State football teams over the weekend.
On the Associated Press team, senior wideout Tyler Walden was named to the Class 4A first team, as was junior Noah Grable, named as a defensive lineman. Quarterback Blake Luker and linebacker Brian Wagner were named AP 4A All-State honorable mention.
In the IFCA All-State team, Luker, Grable and Wagner were all named Class 4A first-team -- Luker and Wagner to the senior team, Grable to the junior team.
Luker rushed for 1,142 yards and threw for 2,630 this season, setting a school total offense record of 3,772 yards. He also set the career school total offense record in the process. Luker accounted for 54 touchdowns this season, throwing for 33 and rushing for 21, also a school total offense record. He holds the school records for career completions, career touchdown passes and single-game, single-season and career total offense yards and touchdowns.
Walden also holds virtually every New Palestine receiving record -- single-game, season and career receptions, yards and career touchdowns. This season, he had 86 catches for 1,431 yards and 14 TDs, setting school records for catches and yards. He is the only career 2,000-yard receiver in New Palestine history.
Wagner and Grable each had 18 sacks to lead a stout New Palestine defense. Wagner had 125 total tackles this season. Grable had 85 stops, including 16 for loss.
The Dragons went 13-1 this season and won HHC, sectional and regional championships. The 13 wins are the most in school history.
