GBB: Dragons win HHC opener against Delta

The New Palestine Dragons used a 20-point run spanning halftime to beat Delta 49-26 in their Hoosier Heritage Conference opener.
The Dragons led 13-12 early in the second quarter, but then held Delta scoreless for the next 8:19. the run started with back-to-back 3-pointers by Haley Stratman and Natalie Kehrt, as the Dragons took a 22-12 lead at the half.
NP then scored eight points in the first 45 seconds of the second half, on free throws by Stratman, an own-basket by Delta, a steal-and-score for Emma Laughlin, and another basket by Carly Hackler. Stratman then hit a 3-pointer to cap the run.
The Dragons led by as many as 23 points, at 38-15, and held Delta without a field goal for 11 minutes of the seocnd and third quarters.
Stratman led a balanced Dragon attack with 14 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Kehrt scored nine first-half points, and added team-highs with seven rebounds and five assists.
Laughlin ahd four assists and six steals. Hackler also added six boards and nine points, hitting 4-of-8 from teh floor. Gia Nitschke scored four. Katlyn Keele, Haley Gehring and Raegan McMurray scored three points each. Emma Laughlin added two.
The Dragons hit 44 perent from the floor (19-44), including 6-14 from beyond the 3-point arc. They held Delta to 18 percent shooting (8-43). Teaghan Dishman led the Eagles with 10 points.
The Dragons are now 3-3 overall and 1-0 in HHC play. They next play Tuesday at home against HHC rival Shelbyville.
