New Castle used a 13-2 run to start the game to beat the Dragons 54-37 Tuesday at the New Castle Fieldhouse.

The Dragons briefly cut the deficit inside single-digits, but NC led 32-16 at halftime and pulled away to its fifth straight victory.

Freshman Raegan McMurray led New Palestine with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 4-5 from the line. She also had four rebounds. Sophomore Natalie Kehrt hit 3-of-5 shots and scored 10 points, to go along with five rebounds.

Sophomore Katlyn Keele had a team-best eight rebounds and three steals. She also had two assists. Emma Laughlin scored six points. Haley Gehring had three assists and two steals. Carly Hackler added four rebounds.

The Dragons had a strong finish, outscoring New Castle 10-5 in the fourth quarter and holding the Trojans without a field goal in the final eight minutes -- one primarily played by the Trojans' starting five.

The Dragons (2-3) next play Saturday in the HHC opener against Delta. Varsity tip is 2:30 p.m.

This was the first regular-season meeting between the Dragons and Trojans, although it will soon be a regular matchup. New Castle will join the HHC as a full-fledged member next season.
