For the first time in school history, both New Palestine cross country teams are advancing to semistate after each finished fifth in the regional.
Seth Eagleson ran a 16:24 5K to win the regional meet and help the Dragons advance to the semistate. He had finished second in the New Palestine sectional, but was 14 seconds ahead of Connersville's Mathew Hill, and 21 seconds ahead of Warren Central's Damon Horn -- who outpaced Eagleson at the sectional.
The Dragons finished fifth with a score of 117 to advance to semistate. They were led by Eagleson, Samuel Voelz (11th, 17:06, Dominic Basciano (32nd, 17:55), Riley Wilson (38th, 18:01) and Chase Tuggle (64th, 18:46).
In the girls race, New Palestine finished fifth with 162 places, finishing just two points shy of fourth-place Roncalli, but just five ahead of sixth-place Hagerstown, six ahead of seventh-place Eastern Hancock and 10 ahead of eighth-place New Castle, which had 172.
Leading the Dragons was Bailey Wallace (19th, 20:59). Also placing for the Dragons were Marissa Crosby (25th, 21:20), Mattie Waggoner (46th, 22:28), Caroline Voelz (52nd, 22:54) and Kayla Medaris (57th, 23:05).
The advancers from the Rushville regional will compete at the Carmel semistate on Saturday at Northview Christian Church.
