Dragon CC teams advance to regional

The New Palestine cross country teams clinched their spots in the regional field. Seth Eagleson's runner-up finish led the boys to a fifth-place finish. Bailey Wallace's top 10 run led the girls to a third-place finish.
In the boys race, Eagleson ran the 5K course in 16:42 to finish as the runner-up in what is his final meet at home. He finished seven seconds behind individual champion Damon Horn of Warren Central, and nine seconds ahead of the third-place finisher.
Samuel Voelz was the lone freshman in the top 20, finishing 17th in 17:43. Dominic Basciano was 25th (18:09), Riley Wilson 26th (18:09) and Drew Legan 42nd (19:08).
As a team, the Dragons tallied 112 points, well ahead of the cutoff to advance -- sixth-place Beech Grove had 194. Franklin Central won the event with 40, with Warren Central (45), Roncalli (78) and Greenfield-Central (91) taking the top four spots.
In the girls race, the Dragons' depth pulled them to a third-place finish with 91 places. Wallace led the way with a 5K run of 21:23, good enough for 10th place. Champion Hope Jones of Warren Central ran 19:36.
Marissa Crosby was 12th in 21:30. Mattie Waggoner finished 21st (22:16), Kayla Medaris 27th (22:55) and Natalie Lindsay 28th (22:59).
Franklin Central won with 25, Warren Central was second with 45. NP outdistanced fourth-place Eastern Hancock by 23 places, as the Royals totaled 114. Roncalli, the final regional qualifier, totaled 126.
The Dragons advance to Saturday's regional at Rushville.
