Monday NPHS wrapup: Tennis, golf face Arabians
September 16, 2013By Andrew Smith of New Palestine High School
The Dragons beat Pendleton Heights 184-201 Monday at The Links, building off their third-place performance at the HHC meet two days prior.
Abby Poole shot a 37 -- including two birdies -- to win medalist honors. Carly Jones returned to action and shot a 48. Sarah Rose shot 49 and Cassie Rooks 50.
"It was a cold night for golf, but Abby was still hot collecting two birdies and a new home course female golf record of 37," NP coach Gregg Greene said. "It was great to have Carly back after two weeks and she responded with a 48 including a birdie on 4. The colder temps and wind played havoc with our girls in their club selection and distances. We will have to review these factors as well as some others before sectional on Saturday."
The Dragons host Rushville Wednesday at The Links.
Fresh off a county championship, New Palestine beat Pendleton Heights 4-1 in an HHC match Monday afternoon.
Singles players Brent Barrett, Connor Swain and Jake Purcell all won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Shayan Khokhar/Ben Farley. The No. 1 doubles team of Pete Rusche/David Thompson dropped a tough 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 match.
"We're still playing pretty well in stretches, but our focus is making sure we're playing well on every single point," NP coach Chris Hardin said.
The Dragons are now 11-2 on the year heading into Tuesday's match at Tech. They are now 3-1 in HHC play.
NP won the JV match 12-0.
