Thursday NPHS wrapup: BSOC, GO wins big
September 12, 2013By Andrew Smith of New Palestine High School
New Palestine beat Shelbyville 3-1 in a Hoosier Heritage Conference match Thursday at NPHS.
Tyler Singleton gave the Dragons an edge at halftime, with Matt Ernster making it 2-0 early in the second half. Caleb Kramer assisted on both.
Bo Owens later added a penalty kick goal -- his second in as many games -- to give the Dragons a key insurance goal.
"It was an exciting game of soccer," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "Everyone on the team played well. I'm proud of our players for the effort they put into this game. A big thank you for our fan section that showed up tonight. We are requesting their support for the next conference game on the road at Greenfield-Central on Sept. 19."
The Dragons are now 5-3 on the season, and 2-1 in HHC play. They next play Saturday at Franklin.
New Palestine won the JV match 6-0 on goals by Ryan Miller, Nick Martin, Sam Weber, Alec Cook and Jaxon Pridgen.
The Dragons continued their strong play, beating Shelbyville 180-208 at Bear Chase.
Abby Poole was medalist with a 39. Sarah Rose added a 45, Bailey Kamp 47 and Cassie Rooks 49.
"We played better on the front nine than we had on Saturday (at Bear Chase), and our putting was better, too," NP coach Gregg Greene said. "Sarah and Bailey both had solid rounds and Abby has made a habit of being medalist this season. Hopefully, we are gaining momentum for conference and sectional."
The Dragons next compete Saturday in the HHC meet.
