Saturday NPHS roundup: Eagleson/Voelz win at Noblesville

New Palestine took more individual honors in the Noblesville Hokum Karum meet, as the team of Samuel Voelz and Seth Eagleson ran away with the individual championship in the six-mile relay race.
The duo completed the event in 30:36.2, winning by 81 seconds over Pendleton Heights' top duo.
As a team, the Dragons finished third in a close race behind Brebeuf and Mt. Vernon. Dominic Basciano/Riley Wilson finished 12th, while Chase Tuggle/Drew Legan were 16th. Tyler Carrie/Drew Gohmann were 20th.
"The guys team did a great job competing in a highy competetive race," NP coach Daniel Weimer said. "Sam Voelz and Seth Eagleson continue to compete and run hard, and were the champions today. It is awesome to see a freshman and a senior work hard and work toghether as a team."
The Dragon girls were third to Pendleton Heights and Brebeuf. Sarah Schwartz/Marissa Crosby finished third, completing the race in 37:46. Bailey Wallace/Kayla Medaris were 10th, Maddie Waggoner/Caroline Voelz were 18th.
"It was great for the girls to get into a very competive race this early in the season," NP coach Daniel Weimer said. "Our top pair of Sarah Schwartz and Marissa Crosby did a great job running and competing in the front pack."
New Palestine dropped a 5-1 decision to Warren Central Saturday morning at NPHS.
Katie Villiger scored a second-half goal for the Dragons, assisted by Madison Parish.
"The young Dragons were unable to gain momentum against Warren Central's veteran team," NP coach Gina Fannin said. "Warren has a solid team and I hope that our girls take this as an opportunity to learn and grow from this experience. We look forward to our first HHC game next week against Yorktown."
The Dragons' next game is Wednesday at Yorktown.
The Dragons posted a 1-2 mark at the Lawrence Central Invitational.
On the day, Jamie Morris had 52 digs to lead the Dragons. Maddie Harper had a combined seven blocks in three matches.
In the opening match, the Dragons fell 25-22, 25-18 to Heritage Christian. Katlyn Keele had four kills. Harper had four blocks. Morris had eight digs.
In the second match, the Dragons dropped a tight 22-25, 25-16, 15-9 decision to host Lawrence Central. Megan Hawley had three kills and seven digs. Ellen Poetz had eight assists. Jamie Morris had 26 digs. Harper had three blocks.
In the day's final match, the Dragons beat Culver Military 28-26, 25-11. Keele had eight kills and eight digs. Hawley had six digs and three aces. Jamie Morris had 20 digs and four aces.
The Dragons are now 4-3 on the season. They next play Tuesday at Zionsville.
The Dragons' game against Lawrence Central was postponed due to inclement weather. A potential makeup date has not been announced.
