Thursday NPHS wrapup: Perfect night for TE, BSO, GO, VB

The Dragons routed Yorktown, winning their conference opener 6-1 at home Thursday evening.
Matt Ernster scored a first-half goal, but then the floodgates opened. Caleb Kramer scored the eventual game-winner early in the second half on an assist from Ben Richter. Bo Owens, Richter, Sam Weber and Tyler Singleton all scored second-half goals.
Kramer added three assists. Weber and Richter added assists to their goals, and Ryan Miller had an assist.
"The boys found their rhythm and played some good soccer against Yorktown," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "We scored six goals and were able to utilize six cifferent players to score those goals. I'm very proud of the team and they should be proud of the great soccer they played tonight. Thanks to our amazing fan section for their support at the game."
The Dragons won the JV game 5-0.
The Dragons next play Saturday at home against Warren Central. Varsity kickoff is 8 p.m.
The Dragons won a tight four-set match at North Decatur Thursday evening, beating the Chargers 25-21, 20-25, 25-13, 25-23.
NP is now 2-0 on the year.
Jamie Morris led the way with 11 kills, 22 digs and five aces. Ellen Poetz added 16 assists and four aces. Maddie Harper had seven kills.
"We fought through some adversity and came out on top," NP coach Kelli Whitaker said. "Our seniors came up big for us tonight."
The Dragon JV won 25-13, 25-23.
The Dragons next compete Tuesday at potential sectional foe Brebeuf.
The New Palestine tennis team improved to 2-0 on the year, beating Yorktown 4-1 in the HHC opener for both teams.
The Dragons got two quick victories at doubles, as David Thompson/Pete Rusche and Shayan Khokhar/Ben Farley won easily. Jake Purcell also won in straight sets at No. 3 singles. At No. 2 singles, Connor Swain won a three-hour match in three sets.
"We had a really solid showing as a team, and came away with a conference win," NP coach Chris Hardin said.
NP won the JV match 8-4.
The Dragons travel to Delta for a Monday match.
The Dragons beat Beech Grove 181-218 Thursday at The Links.
Cassie Rooks shot a 38 to win medalist honors for the second straight match. Abby Poole totaled a 45. Carly Jones and Bailey Kamp each shot 49s, and Sarah Rose added a 50.
The Dragons next compete Monday against Greenfield-Central and Franklin Central at Hawk's Tai in Greenfield.
