NPHS weekend wrapup: Gymnasts 2nd at East, Gish 29th in state

Dragons 2nd at Columbus East: The 12th-ranked New Palestine gymnastics team scored a season-high 106.95 points and finished second to No. 5 Columbus East at Saturday's Columbus East Invitational.
The Olympians won with 108.3 points. NP's 106.95 outdistanced Seymour (102.95), Roncalli (98.15), Bloomington North (95.55), Jeffersonville (93.625), Rushville (90.175) and Martinsville (90.1).
The Dragons are now 37-1 on the season.
Kaytlin Fee was an individual champion for the Dragons, winning the floor exercise with a 9.4 score. Fee was also third on balance beam (9.15) and fourth on uneven bars (8.75). She also tied for sixth on vault (8.65). Her all-around score of 35.95 placed fourth.
Kenzi Hoffman had a runner-up finish on balance beam at 9.3. She was also fourth on both floor (9.25) and vault (9.175). She finished third in the all-around with a score of 36.0.
Other top-six finishers for the Dragons were Ciarra Hough on floor (5th, 9.2) and beam (6th, 8.55), Annabelle Dockins on vault (6th, 8.65) and floor (6th, 9.075) and Shelly Huesman on bars (6th, 8.6) and beam (8th, 8.25).
The Dragons host the sectional March 2.
Gish 29th at state: NP junior Grant Gish finished 29th at the IHSAA State Finals in the 200 freestyle Friday night.
Gish swam 1:49.42 on the evening to place in the state's top 30 in his event. The state champ, Trevor Carrell of South Bend St. Joseph, swam 1:37.10.
Gish was making his second straight trip to the State Finals.
