Home » General NewsMonday NPHS wrapup: Girls soccer HHC champsSeptember 25, 2012 New Palestine High SchoolGirls soccer New Palestine 6, Shelbyville 0: The Dragons clinched the outright Hoosier Heritage Conference championship for the third consecutive year -- and won their 24th straight HHC game -- with a shutout victory over Shelbyville. The Dragons outscored their conference foes 36-6 en route to winning the title. Kristin Wagner scored twice for NP and added an assist. Alyssa Mouzin had a goal and an assist. Molly Carpenter had two assists. Emily Sitzman, Madison Parish and Amy Hilton also scored goals for NP. The Dragons led 4-0 at the break and added two more goals in the second half. NP (11-5) finishes its regular season Wednesday at home against Guerin Catholic. Boys tennis New Palestine 5, Rushville 0: The Dragons concluded a 12-3 campaign with a victory over Rushville. The win also clinched second place in the HHC for NP, which finished conference play with a 5-2 record. Winners for the Dragons were Brent Barrett (6-4, 7-5), Stratton Smith (6-2, 6-1) and Connor Swain (6-1, 6-0) at singles. Both doubles teams of Evan Poole/Shayan Khokhar and David Thompson/Pete Rusche won 6-0, 6-0. The Dragons open sectional play at 4 p.m. Thursday against host Mt. Vernon. Volleyball Franklin Central 3, New Palestine 2: The Dragons dropped a heartbreaker, as FC rallied in the final two games to win 25-13, 20-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-5. McKenze Qualkinbush had 10 kills. Jamie Morris and Mikayla Little both had eight kills. Katie Morris had 22 assists and six kills. Ellen Poetz had seven assists for NP. The Dragons (11-13) host No. 1 Yorktown Tuesday. The match will be broadcast at ihigh.com/newpaldragons. Football JV/frosh split vs. Yorktown: The Dragon JV football team rallied from a 14-point deficit to tie the game, but fell to Yorktown 22-14 for its first loss of the year. The Dragons are now 4-1 heading into next week's game against Shelbyville. The freshman team improved to 6-0 with a 48-6 rout of Yorktown. It will travel to Shelbyville next Monday.
