Tuesday NPHS wrap: Boys soccer, tennis victorious

Boys soccer
New Palestine 10, Greenwood 1: The Dragons got an early boost from Bryson Basaran, who convered two feeds from Caleb Kramer to give NP a 2-1 lead, then pulled away. NP led 4-1 at halftime and scored six times in the second half to win.

Basaran had three goals and an assist. All of his goals were assisted by Kramer, who also had two goals of his own. Solomon Haynes had two goals and two assists.

Jaron Pridgen -- normally the Dragons' starting goalkeeper -- had three second-half assists for NP.

Sam Weber, Bo Owens and Jackson Schwier also scored goals for the Dragons. Alex Warfield and Nick Martin added assists.

"It was a good, solid win," NP coach Bobby Holden said. "Twenty-five players were involved in tonight's victory. I'm very proud of the boys' performance tonight. I'm looking forward to Thursday's match against Greenfield."

NP is now 6-3-1 on the year. The Dragons' next game will be Thursday against Greenfield-Central, a match that will be broadcast at ihigh.com/newpaldragons.

Volleyball
Delta 3, New Palestine 0: The Eagles used big runs to sweep the Dragons at New Palestine. Delta won 25-17, 25-17, 25-14. The Eagles broke a 15-all tie with a 10-2 run to finish Game 1. Delta then used a 7-0 run to break a 10-all tie in Game 2 to pull away, and then took an early lead it wouldn't relinquish in the third game.

The Dragons (7-9) next play Thursday at home against Pendleton Heights.

Tennis
New Palestine 5, Tech 0: The Dragons were nearly-perfect in a victory over Tech. Brent Barrett, Stratton Smith and Connor Swain all won 6-0, 6-0, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Evan Poole/Shayan Khokhar. The No. 2 doubles team of David Thompson/Pete Rusche won 6-0, 6-1.

NP is now 8-3 on the year. The Dragons next play Thursday at Triton Central.

The Dragons' JV also won 10-0.

Golf
Mt. Vernon 190, New Palestine 199: The Marauders got a victory as the two schools played on the sectional course at Old Oakland.

NP's Abby Poole was the low medalist with a 43.
