September 6, 2012By Andrew Smith of New Palestine High School
New Palestine 4, Mt. Vernon 1: The Dragons got three first-half goals and used the early outburst to beat Mt. Vernon 4-1 Wednesday at NP.
Alyssa Mouzin and Jen Roberts had a goal and an assist each.
Early in the game, Mouzin fed Madison Parish for the game's first goal. Lauren Joray added a penalty kick goal to make it 2-0, then Mouzin scored on an feed from Roberts to give NP a 3-0 halftime lead.
Roberts added a penalty kick goal in the second half.
NP coach Bobby Holden said Parish played an outstanding game, as did several other players, noting that Joray and Roberts also had strong nights.
The Marauders scored a late goal, credited as an own goal that deflected off an NP player.
"New Palestine controlled the game technically," Holden said. "We were successful by winning many 50/50 balls, possessing the midfield, and keeping the offensive pressure on throughout the game. I'm proud of the girls performance tonight. The team is now looking forward to the game against Greenfield next week on Wednesday."
