Dragons outscore, outgain Crusaders in scrimmage

The New Palestine football team outgained and outscored the Scecina Crusaders in Friday's football scrimmage.
The Dragon varsity scored four touchdowns -- twice in the goal-line sitution, twice on the series from the Scecina 35. NP nearly scored again, as Tyler Walden caught a 34-yard pass on the 1-yard line on the Dragons final scheduled offensive play. The Crusaders scored twice -- once in each of those two situations.
NP outgained Scecina 198-89, with the Dragons gaining 71 yards on the ground and 127 through the air. Scecina had 82 rushing yards and 7 passing yards. NP's Red Rage defense also forced two turnovers.
Quarterback Blake Luker threw for 104 yards and two TDs -- one each to Tyler Walden and Scott Lyons. Luker also ran for a TD. Chaz Hill also had a 23-yard completion in varsity play. Collin Hill led the rushing attack with 52 yards and a touchdown. Lyons also had an interception on defense.
Chaz Hill and Justin Wiggins helped lead the Dragons to two touchdowns in the JV portion.
The offense caught fire on its final series, as Hill completed a 23-yard pass to Logan Carothers, then Luker hit Lyons for 28 yards, Walden for a seven-yard TD, then hit Walden again for a 34-yard pass to the 1-yard line.
