Cards vs. Bruins
October 18, 2011By Ashley Wimsett of Nelson County High School
Last night the Cards took on district winner Central Hardin Bruins in the 1st round of the region. The Cards came in as the underdog but came out on top with a 2-1 win over the Bruins. From a spectators point of view the Cards dominated play most ofthe game, showing heart and hard work throughout. The Bruins scored late in the first half off a set piece right out side of the 18. The cards forward Cole Bray, currently number one for scoring in state, turning things around early in the second half with a rip right over the keepers head to make it a 1-1 game. Both teams had multiple shots on goal and keeper Ryan Watkins had an amazing performance. With about 7 minutes left to go in the match the Cards had a throw in some what close to the goal and with Colby Veechs good throw, Chris Muncy managed to get a head on the ball and nail it in the back of the net to make the Cards ahead 2-1. All through the rest of the game the Cards played a defensive game to hold off the Bruins. This effort by the Cards leads them into region championship play on Wednesday night taking on district rival Bethlehem Eagles at 7 pm.
